Owl Eye Colour

I’ve always preferred raptors to owls however there are many things about these little (and not to little) guys that one cannot fail to find fascinating. For example the colour of their eyes indicate activity patterns.

Orange eyes species such as this Indian Eagle Owl are most active around dawn and dusk, whereas dark brown/black such as the Barn Owl are typically nocturnal.

Contrary to popular belief there are actually diurnal owls, daytime owls, with yellow eyes. The most famous example of a diurnal owl I can recall is the Snowy Owl but from recent reports I have been reading it would seem that they’re less diurnal and more ‘I’ll hunt whatever time I bloody-well want to’.
